The David Jones Persuasive Speech Contest is held each spring to honor the memory of David M. Jones, a past chair of the Fine & Applied Arts department who died of cancer in 2002. Any currently enrolled Parkland student who is taking, or who has taken at least one speech course at Parkland College is eligible to participate. Participating students compete for cash scholarship prizes. Contestants prepare and present a short, persuasive speech about a charitable organization of their choice. For more information, visit https://www.parkland.edu/Main/Academics/Departments/Fine-and-Applied-Arts/Areas-of-Study/Communication/Practical-Training/David-Jones-Speech-Contest.
