Abstract

Julia Wang explains why from her perspective, as someone who grew up in Beijing, America still remains a land of prosperity and possibility. She describes why her and her husband’s low-income existence when they first lived in the U.S. felt like material comfort and security relative to what they were accustomed to in China. Wang argues that people in the U.S. who work hard, value the educational opportunities, and sacrifice themselves for their children’s well-being continue to achieve the “American Dream” of success.
