Abstract
Anthropogenic activities and natural processes are responsible for changing the pH of freshwaters which can impact aquatic life. D. dentifera is a keystone species found in midwestern lakes that is susceptible to a parasitic yeast called Australozyma monospora. A. monospora spores puncture the Daphnia gut into the hemolymph and begin using the host’s resources. Invertebrate immunity is under researched.
Research objective: How will different pH impact prophenoloxidase (proPO) activity and hemocyte recruitment in Daphnia dentifera?
